The following steps will give you the best possible chance of securing a U.S. visa. It is recommended that you start the process approximately 90 days prior to your departure.
1. Register for CIAT Technology Meeting (registration to open mid-May 2016)
Be sure to complete the registration process in full for each Attendee and/or Exhibitor requiring a Letter of Invitation. After September 1, 2016, CIAT Technology Meeting will not be able to process any new requests for a Letter of Invitation.
2. Request your letter of invitation here.
The Letter of Invitation will be emailed to you within 5 working days in pdf format. CIAT Technology Meeting cannot guarantee you will get a visa, however your registration fees will be refunded per the cancellation policy if it is denied (registration cancellation request must be received by September 23). Print the Letter of Invitation in color and submit it along with your visa application to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate.
3. Online Visa Application
Complete the U.S. State Department Online Non-immigration Visa Application. This online application is used by all U.S. Embassies. Once you complete the online application, a confirmation will be emailed to you outlining further instructions for an appointment. U.S. immigration services recommend that you contact the U.S. Embassy/Consulate in your locale to find out what other supporting documents you will need to take with you to your appointment.
4. Schedule your appointment for a visa interview early!
Wait times depend on location and time of year, but you can find out specific procedures and estimated wait times by checking your U.S. Embassy/Consulate’s website. We suggest that you do not purchase your airline ticket until your visa application has been approved.
